Adopting a World Need
Series: Core Practices
The world is a smaller place than ever before in history – it is easier to be exposed to world needs and have a personal impact on them than it has ever been. There is no place for an apprentice of Jesus to live with an out-of-sight, out-of-mind mentality when it comes to the world that Jesus created and loves.
This is why, at St Albert Alliance, we want each person or family to adopt a world need. We use the word ‘adopt’ very intentionally. There are many opportunities around us to participate in well-intentioned charitable efforts that require very little of us. ‘Adoption’ speaks of a deeper level of commitment – of both relationship and ownership. As apprentices of Jesus we want to build relationships with those that are in the midst of world needs and then take those needs on as our own. To invest not only our resources, but also our time to research and advocate, our individual gifts to make a difference and our prayers to cover all of it.
How this looks will be different for each person or family – that’s the exciting part. There is no “one size fits all”.
